Binding Nest
nails, wire, and paper
This piece, titled Binding Nest, delves into the relationship between bird species and urban environments; the artwork portrays paper birds entrapped in the wires and nails of encompassing city buildings. It is estimated by the Fatal Light Awareness Program that up to 976 million birds are killed annually from striking into windows, as well as a projected 50 million from communication towers, and 174 million from high tension line collisions. The interconnection between the bird species and city structures in this installation intends to convey the harm, restrictive nature, and direct link from man made structures to the rising death toll of these animals in today’s developing society.
